Its story
El Nazar Church is in a valley reached by a short walk from the side of the road leading from central Göreme to the open-air museum. The small cross-plan church is carved into a single rock mass and preserves colorful frescoes dated to the 10th century. During restoration, the eroded rock mass was reinforced with protective coatings. Much quieter than the main museum, the church is a good stop for those who want to see a Cappadocian church away from the crowds.
