Its story

Sobesos is an ancient city in the village of Şahinefendi, about 23 km from Ürgüp, at the starting point of the Soğanlı Valley. After the remains around the village were noticed, the Nevşehir Museum Directorate began excavations in 2002. The 2002–2005 excavations uncovered a burial chamber dated to the 4th century and a bath building thought to have been used first as a residence and then as a chapel. The floor mosaics, worked in colored stone and glass with cross, meander, eight-pointed star and interlace motifs, are the site's most striking finds.
