Its story
The Akkuş district is built on the Canik Mountains, at the foot of Argan Dağı; the Argın, or Argan, Highland is also on the plains of these heights. It is one of the stops mentioned in Ordu's highland tourism alongside the Çambaşı and Perşembe highlands. The highland was declared a tourism center by Council of Ministers decision in 1991; it is reached via the Akkuş–Niksar highway. It is stated to be suitable for winter sports because it stays covered with snow for about four months of the year, while in the summer months it is used for grazing animals and as a rest area. Its open meadows surrounded by pine and hornbeam forests are suitable for walking.
