A mosque in Büyükesence village in Erenler, known by the name of Orhan Gazi and regarded as one of the oldest Ottoman buildings in the region.
Its story
The Büyükesence Orhan Mosque has a tradition going back to the 14th century, when the Sakarya Plain was added to Ottoman lands, and is known by the name of Orhan Gazi. The mosque in the village has been repaired and renewed many times over the centuries because of earthquakes. Despite its simple architecture, it is an important building recalling the region's early Ottoman settlement history. The surrounding village fabric and old gravestones add historical depth to a visit. It is a short drive from central Adapazarı.
