Bayezid II Bridge (Geyve)
Geyve, Sakarya
A multi-arched Ottoman stone bridge over the Sakarya River, built in the reign of Bayezid II.
Its story
The Geyve Bridge was built over the Sakarya River in the late 15th century, in the reign of Sultan Bayezid II. It stands at an important point where the caravan road from Istanbul to Anatolia crossed the river. The bridge, made up of many arches, has been affected by floods and earthquakes over the centuries and repaired many times. Still joining the two banks of the river today, the bridge is one of the most important examples of Ottoman road architecture in the region. It can be seen on the same trip as the Ali Fuat Paşa Museum.
