Its story
Harmantepe Castle is on a small hill near Harmantepe village, beside the stream flowing out of Taşkısığı Gölü. It is believed to have been built in the 12th or 13th century as part of a chain of castles established west of the Sakarya River against Turkish raids. The walls, about 10 meters high and 2 meters thick, carry six towers measuring 5x5 meters. The five-gated structure has its main entrance on the south; it was built of rubble stone and lime mortar without using brick. Long neglected and overgrown with vegetation, the castle is described as the most intact Byzantine castle in Sakarya, and a decision has been made to restore it.
