İlkadım Monument
İlkadım, Samsun
A monument by Hakkı Atamulu marking the site of the pier where Atatürk set foot in Samsun on 19 May 1919.
Its story
The monument was made in 1981–1982, the centenary of Atatürk's birth, by the sculptor Hakkı Atamulu. In the middle are Atatürk in uniform and his commanders, and at the two ends figures representing youth. The spot, now about 250 meters inland from the shore because of harbor landfill, marks the site of the pier where he landed on 19 May 1919.
