Its story
Samsun Museum operates in its new building, which replaced the Archaeology and Ethnography Museum opened in 1981. More than 7,000 artifacts are displayed in the building of about 15,000 square meters, whose architecture is inspired by Black Sea waves. The stars of the collection are a mosaic from the ancient city of Amisos, a bronze athlete statue and the Amisos Treasure of Hellenistic gold jewelry. Besides halls spanning the Classical age to the Ottoman period, there are an ethnography section, a children's museum and a library.
