Its story
İsmail Fakirullah, born in Tillo in 1657 and who died here in 1734, was the sheikh of Erzurumlu İbrahim Hakkı, author of the Mârifetnâme. The tomb was commissioned by İbrahim Hakkı after his teacher's death and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2015. Its main fame comes from its light mechanism: every year on the mornings of 21 March and 23 September, the sun's rays, aligned with a window in the wall called Kal'atü'l-Üstad about 3 km away and with the tower beside the tomb, enter through the tomb's window and for a few minutes illuminate the head of the sarcophagus. The mechanism, disrupted in the 1960 restoration, was made to work again on 23 September 2011. İbrahim Hakkı also rests in the same tomb; nearby are the tombs of Tillo saints such as Şeyh İbrahim el-Mücahid.
