Durağan is a settlement founded on the old trade route at the point where the Kızılırmak and the Gökırmak meet. The historic 'Durak Han' in the district center was used as a caravan stop where travelers lodged, and the district's name derived over time from this han. The stone building recalls the importance the district once had on the route between Inner Anatolia and the Black Sea. It is an easily reached stop in the district center for a short break. Whether the inside of the building is open to visitors may vary from period to period.
