Its story
According to a widespread belief in Cizre, the Prophet Noah settled in this city at the foot of Cudi Dağı (Mount Cudi), where his ark is held to have come to rest after the Flood, and died here. The grave with a sarcophagus in the basement section south of the Hz. Nuh Peygamber Mosque in the Dağkapı neighborhood, reached by descending a staircase and passing through a long, narrow prayer space, is attributed to him. It is said that the mosque above was a church before Islam; writers such as Evliya Çelebi and Kâtip Çelebi also mentioned the grave. The complex was repaired by an association, and the municipality's street rehabilitation project created a walking axis connecting it to the Kırmızı Madrasa. The tomb receives domestic and foreign visitors every day; numbers rise during Ramadan and the Prophet Noah commemoration programs.
