Its story
Divriği Castle is built on a steep hill above the district overlooking the Çaltı Çayı (Çaltı Stream) valley. Of strategic importance since the Byzantine period, the castle largely took its present appearance with its cut-stone walls built in the Mengujekid period in the 13th century; a square-plan firing tower is its best-preserved part. On the entrance arch of the Kale Mosque inside the castle are an inscription dated 1181 in the name of the Mengujekid Seyfeddin Şehinşah and the architect's signature of Hasan bin Firuz of Maragheh. From the hilltop the Ulu Mosque and Darüşşifa and the old Divriği houses are seen at a glance. The road up is steep and rough in places.
