Its story
Sarissa, known as the Kuşaklı archaeological site, is one of the important cities of the Hittites. In excavations a large temple, a letter, a terracotta twin bull rhyton and cuneiform tablets were found. In the Treaty of Kadesh, signed between Egypt and the Hittites in the 13th century BC, 'the Storm God of Sarissa' is listed among the witnesses. South of the mound are a Hittite dam formed by a stone embankment and an open-air temple with the sacred 'huwaşi' stone mentioned in Hittite texts. The excavations were carried out by Prof. Dr. Andreas Müller-Karpe of the University of Marburg.
