Its story
Ayas Paşa Mosque was commissioned in cut stone in the first half of the 16th century by Ayas Mehmed Paşa, one of the grand viziers of Süleyman's reign; sources give different years between 1525 and 1539 for its construction. Next to the mosque is the hammam that was part of the complex. In the 18th century some of the Crimean khans spent their lives in exile around Saray; graves belonging to the Giray dynasty are in the mosque's courtyard. Saray was a staging post on the historic road linking Edirne to Istanbul.
