Tokat Mevlevi Lodge Foundation Museum
Merkez, Tokat
A three-story Mevlevi lodge founded in the 17th century, renovated in baroque style in the 19th century and visited today as a Foundation Museum.
Its story
According to the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, the lodge was founded in 1638 by Muslu Ağa. After the fire of 1792, the main building was rebuilt and the semahane (ceremonial hall), bearing traces of the Anatolian baroque style, took its present appearance. Used for a time as a prison after the closure of the lodges, the building was opened in 2006, after restoration in 2005, by the General Directorate of Foundations as the Tokat Mevlevihane Foundation Museum. Inside, objects of Mevlevi culture and re-creations of lodge life can be seen.
