Its story
Niksar Castle rises on the hill of the town known in antiquity as Kabeira. Its core, from the Pontic period, was expanded in the Roman and Byzantine periods and strengthened in the Danishmendid and later periods. Ministry sources cite the castle as the second-largest castle in Türkiye. Within the walls are the remains of a madrasa, two hamams, two masjids, a church and a dungeon. At the foot of the castle are the Yağıbasan Madrasa and Danishmendid monuments; from the hill the Niksar plain can be seen.
