Its story
The mosque was commissioned in the 16th century by İskender Paşa, governor of Trabzon; sources give differing construction dates, and the repair carried out in 1882 gave the building its present form. The madrasa in its courtyard has been demolished and the old cemetery to its west removed, with only İskender Paşa's grave left in place. The minaret of the cut-stone mosque is built with courses of brick and colored stone. Inside, the stone mihrab has floral and geometric decoration and the marble minbar floral ornament; there is hand-painted decoration on the dome and walls. It can easily be added to a city walk around the Meydan (Atatürk Alanı).
