Its story
The highland, southwest of Çaykara at an altitude of about 2000 meters, takes its name from the tradition that Murad IV, returning from his Iranian campaign in 1635, camped here with his army and performed the Friday prayer. In World War I, Ottoman units fought the Russian army here; the hill where an officer and 70 soldiers fell as martyrs is known as Şehitler Tepesi (Martyrs' Hill). On the highland there are trenches from the war and martyrs' graves; thousands of people attend the festival and commemoration events held every year at the end of June. The wide meadows, highland houses and mountain views make it well suited for summer walks.
