Tabakhane Bridge
Ortahisar, Trabzon
A two-tiered, six-arched historic stone bridge crossing the Tabakhane Deresi valley east of Ortahisar.
Its story
The bridge is built over the Tabakhane (Kuzgun) Deresi valley east of the castle walls, and its western end rests on Ortahisar. Its first construction is claimed to go back to the Roman period, the 1st century; Evliya Çelebi, however, attributes the bridge to the Karakoyunlu period. The bridge, which took its present appearance in the 19th century, was repaired in 1880. Built in two tiers, the lower tier of the bridge has a single span, and the upper tier six oval arched spans. From the park area in the valley, it is possible to photograph the bridge and the walls together; the Küçük Ayvasıl Church and the bazaar are within walking distance.
