Its story
The Munzur Springs, west of the Ovacık district center at the place known as 'Ziyaret', are where many springs emerging from between the rocks join to form the Munzur Çayı. This place, considered sacred in Dersim Alevism, is known for the story linked to Munzur Baba: according to the popular legend, the shepherd Munzur dropped the bowl of milk in his hand while being chased, the springs gushed out where the milk spilled, and the river was formed. Visitors light candles here, make wishes and leave offerings (niyaz); GoTürkiye also presents the springs in this context of faith. The area around the springs is a protected site. The place, visited by thousands of people from spring onward, is also an important nature stop with its ice-cold clear water and the mountain scenery around it.
