Its story
The Munzur Valley was declared a national park in 1971 and is considered one of Türkiye's largest national parks with the highest biological diversity. The park begins about 8 km northwest of central Tunceli and stretches along the Munzur Çayı (Munzur Stream) valley to Ovacık and the Munzur Mountains, which exceed 3,000 meters. It is stated that 43 of the more than 1,500 recorded plant species grow only in the Munzur Mountains; oak forests cover the slopes, while species such as plane, walnut, alder and birch line the streams. Species such as wild goats, mountain goats, brown bears and Caspian snowcocks, as well as the trout in the Munzur and Mercan waters, are among the park's important wildlife. The Tunceli–Ovacık road runs through the valley; along the road you see waterfalls, rocky gorges and streamside rest spots. Rafting also takes place on the Munzur Çayı in summer.
