Blaundos Ancient City
Ulubey, Uşak
A Hellenistic-Roman city built on a canyon-ringed hill, founded in the time of the Macedonians.
Its story
Blaundos is on a hill surrounded on three sides by deep canyons, within the bounds of Sülümenli village in Ulubey. It is believed to have been founded by the Macedonians in the late 4th century BC, after Alexander the Great's Anatolian campaign. It became a military city in the period of the Kingdom of Pergamon and kept its strategic importance in the Roman and Byzantine periods. Remains such as a temple, a theater, a gate and rock tombs are being made visible through excavations.
