Göğem Victory Monument

A victory column marking the place where the Greek Commander-in-Chief Trikoupis was taken prisoner on September 2, 1922.
Its story
The Göğem Victory Monument is in Göğem village in central Uşak, about 16 km from the city. General Trikoupis, commander-in-chief of the Greek army retreating after the Great Offensive, and his staff surrendered in this area on the night of September 2, 1922 to Staff Colonel Halit (Akmansu) Bey, commander of the 5th Caucasian Division. The monument's inscription bears the names of Halit Akmansu, who accepted the surrender, and the soldiers under his command. The monument can be visited together with the wooded Göğem Pond and its picnic areas.
