Yalova City Museum
Merkez, Yalova
A city museum telling Yalova's history from antiquity to the Republic, and its memory of migration and earthquake.
Its story
The city museum tells Yalova's story from the Bithynian period through Byzantium and the Ottomans to its transformation, in the early years of the Republic, into a spa town developed with Atatürk's support. The exhibits include objects relating to the city's cultural makeup, shaped by successive waves of migration, and its daily life. The marks the 1999 Marmara earthquake left on the city are also an important part of its memory. The museum can be combined with a seaside stroll in the city center. It is a good starting point for getting to know Yalova.
