Altıgöz Bridge
Merkez, Afyonkarahisar
A six-arched Seljuk stone bridge over the Akarçay, given its present form by a restoration in 1237.
Its story
Altıgöz Bridge spans the Akarçay in the city center, near Çetinkaya station. According to its Arabic inscription, it was built before 1209 by Sabıküddin Ebü'l-Vefa İlyas Bey and restored to its present form in 1237 by his son Hacı Mehmed. It takes its name from its six arches (altı göz). It is the city's example of Anatolian Seljuk bridge architecture.
