Aslantaş and Yılantaş Rock Tombs
İhsaniye, Afyonkarahisar
Phrygian rock tombs comprising Aslantaş, with giant lion reliefs on its façade, and the toppled Yılantaş.
Its story
Aslantaş is one of the most famous monuments in the Afyonkarahisar section of the Phrygian Valley: two large reliefs of lions rearing on their hind legs guard the entrance to the burial chamber on either side. Nearby Yılantaş lies on its side because its façade toppled together with the rock mass. Both monuments were made in the first half of the 1st millennium BC, during the heyday of the Phrygian kingdom. They are visited on a short walk together with the nearby Maltaş monument.
