Sultan Dîvânî Mevlevîhâne Museum
Merkez, Afyonkarahisar
A museum in the dervish lodge founded by Ulu Ârif Çelebi in 1316, which became one of the important centers of the Mevlevi order.
Its story
Ulu Ârif Çelebi, grandson of Mevlânâ, came to Afyonkarahisar in 1316 and founded a dervish lodge here. The lodge was repaired many times over the centuries and rebuilt in 1908 after a fire in 1902. It lost its function when the tekkes and zaviyes were closed in 1925; its dervish cells and semahane (ceremonial hall) were restored and it was converted into a museum. The semahane, the tomb section and exhibits on Mevlevi life can be visited.
