Beypazarı Historic Town
Beypazarı, Ankara
Ankara's most visited historic district center, with hundreds of restored Ottoman houses and its blacksmiths' and coppersmiths' bazaar.
Its story
Beypazarı is an old trading town northwest of Ankara, set at the mouth of the İnözü Valley. Its two- and three-story timber-framed mansions with bay windows, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, have been renovated through conservation work carried out since the 1990s, preserving the town's fabric. In the bazaar on and around Alaaddin Street, silver filigree, copperware, handwoven textiles and local foods are sold. The best-known products are the geographically indicated Beypazarı kurusu (dry biscuits), carrot lokum and walnut tatlı sucuk (grape-molasses walnut roll). Bustling on weekends with day-trippers from Ankara, the town is also known for its mansion guesthouses and breakfast spots.
