Its story
The institute was founded in April 1941 when 266 students from the Kepirtepe Village Institute settled in Hasanoğlan; it stood apart for its higher section, which trained teachers and inspectors for the other village institutes. The buildings were constructed through a large imece (collective work effort) joined by student groups from 11 village institutes, and by 1945 they numbered 43, including a cinema, a music hall and an open-air theater. Figures such as Âşık Veysel, Ruhi Su, Sabahattin Eyüboğlu and Mahir Canova taught at the institute. The Higher Village Institute was closed on 27 November 1947. A restoration initiative launched in 2021 was halted when its permit was revoked; the campus continues to be remembered as one of the iconic sites of Republican education history.
