Akseki Historic Town
Akseki, Antalya
A mountain town at 1,100 m in the Taurus, known for its snowdrops and traditional düğmeli (button) houses.
Its story
Akseki is set at about 1,065–1,100 m in the Western Taurus and is known as "the homeland of the snowdrop". The settlement, called Marla in the Byzantine period, later came under Seljuk and Ottoman rule. Thanks to its traditional houses using stone together with wooden beams, it is a member of the European Association of Historic Towns. In summer it is a cool highland stop for those escaping the heat of the coast.
