Alanya Castle
Alanya, Antalya
A Seljuk castle encircling the peninsula, which rises about 250 meters from the sea, with 6.5 km of walls.
Its story
The castle, whose origins go back to the Hellenistic period, owes its present fabric to the buildings commissioned by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, who took the city in 1221. The walls total 6.5 km in length, and with its inner citadel, cisterns, mosque and houses it lives on like a town. From the top, the Alanya coast and the Taurus Mountains are seen in a wide panorama.
