Antiphellos Ancient Theater and Kaş Rock Tombs
Kaş, Antalya
Ancient Habesos, within Kaş, with a Hellenistic theater facing the island of Meis and Lycian tombs scattered across town.
Its story
Originally known as Habesos, Antiphellos is one of the coastal cities of Lycia; its Greek name first appears in an inscription from the 4th century BC. It developed as the port of inland Phellos, and when Phellos lost its importance it became the largest city in the region and minted its own coins. Today the theater in central Kaş, facing the sea, is a sunset viewing spot; Lycian sarcophagi and rock tombs can be seen in different parts of town.
