Kesik Minare (Korkut Mosque)
Muratpaşa, Antalya
One of the most interesting buildings in Kaleiçi, with a layered past as a Roman temple turned church turned mosque.
Its story
Also known as the Kırık Minare, the Korkut Mosque or the Cumanın Mosque, the building was first constructed in the 2nd century as a Roman temple. In the Byzantine period it was converted into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and then in the Ottoman period into a mosque. The collapse of the upper part of the minaret gave the building its present name (Truncated Minaret). Architectural elements from different periods can be read on the same building.
