Kırkgöz Kemeri (Limyra Bridge)
Finike, Antalya
One of the world's oldest segmental-arch bridges, crossing the Alakır Stream with 26 flat arches.
Its story
Known in the Roman period as the Limyra Bridge, the structure is about 360 m long. Its very low arch ratio gives the bridge a flat appearance; this ratio was not achieved again until the Late Middle Ages. The bridge was described by 19th-century travelers and documented in the 1970s by the German Archaeological Institute. Intensive farming and greenhouses around it threaten the structure.
