Its story
Deniz Gölü is a glacial lake at an elevation of about 3384 meters on the route up Mount Kaçkar from the Artvin side. At about 60 meters deep, it is known as Türkiye's deepest glacial lake, and with a surface area of more than 95,000 square meters, the largest lake in the Kaçkars. Covered in ice for about ten months of the year, the lake only begins to thaw between mid- and late July. It is reached on a 5–6-hour hike from the Olgunlar quarter of Yaylalar village; in summer, climbers heading for the summit camp here. Set among granite walls and snowfields, the lake offers one of the most impressive high-mountain views in the Kaçkars.
