Nature / Yayla (highland pasture)
Kafkasör Yaylası
Merkez, Artvin
A yayla and recreation area very close to the city, surrounded by pine, fir and spruce forests, known for its summer festival with bull wrestling.
Its story
Kafkasör is a yayla (highland pasture) and forest recreation area stretching between forested ridges just west of the city of Artvin; it has also been designated as the Kafkasör Culture Conservation and Tourism Development Zone. The area, surrounded by pine, fir and spruce, has steep slopes, rocky outcrops and forest trails. The Kafkasör Yayla Festival, held every June, brings together the region's music and culture; its most popular event is bull wrestling, for which there is a special arena on the yayla. It is used for picnics and walks in summer, and in winter as a stop on the way to the nearby Atabarı Ski Center.
