Its story
Yaylalar, formerly called Hevek, a name derived from a Georgian word meaning 'stream, valley', is one of the villages of the historic Tao region. The village, at the foot of the Kaçkar Mountains, and the Olgunlar hamlet 3 km above it are the starting points of the classic climbing route to Mount Kaçkar and of the yayla trails crossing over to Rize. The village, which welcomes hundreds of nature lovers wanting to camp and trek every summer, has accommodation. Its wooden and stone village houses, yayla meadows and glacial valleys offer an impressive highland experience even for those who do not climb the mountain. The village is reached via Altıparmak on a long, narrow mountain road.
