Its story
The Artuqid Hammam was a bath in the lower town of medieval Hasankeyf on the banks of the Tigris; officials date the building to the 1200s, although sources give different figures for its age. To keep it from being submerged by the Ilısu Dam lake, it became the second large structure to be moved after the Zeynel Bey Tomb: the hammam of about 1,500 tons was carried in August 2018 on a special multi-wheeled vehicle to the Culture Park area in new Hasankeyf and placed on a foundation set on bored piles. Today it can be seen near the Zeynel Bey Tomb as part of the open-air exhibition together with the other relocated monuments; its domed mass is one of the rare tangible traces of daily life in the old town.
