Its story
Abant Lake is a landslide-dammed lake on the Abant Mountains, about 33 kilometers southwest of Bolu. The lake, at an altitude of 1,328 meters, covers an area of about 125 hectares, and its deepest point is 18 meters; it is fed by snowmelt and small streams and, in winter cold, freezes starting from the shore. The lake and its surroundings were declared a national park on 9 June 2022. In the area, surrounded by beech and Uludağ fir forests, live plants growing only here, such as the Abant crocus, and the Abant trout, endemic to Bolu. The road of about 7 kilometers around the lake is ideal for walking and cycling; there are picnic and camping areas. It can be very crowded on weekends and in autumn.
