Kadı Mosque
Merkez, Bolu
A mosque commissioned in 1499 by Mehmet Bey, son of Demirtaş Paşa, known for its wooden door in kündekâri work and its projecting pentagonal mihrab section.
Its story
The mosque in the Büyükcami neighborhood was commissioned in 1499 by Mehmet Bey, son of Demirtaş Paşa. The mihrab section of the rectangular cut-stone building projects outward as a five-sided protrusion; this feature gives the building at first glance the look of a basilica. The most valuable part of the mosque is its outer door, made with the kündekâri technique, that is, of small wooden pieces fitted together without nails or glue. Its stone mihrab and minbar are also well kept. It is said to take its name from the old kadı's (judge's) court building nearby. It is a few minutes' walk from the Yıldırım Bayezid Mosque.
