Safety warning
Its story
Kartalkaya is a ski center built above the extensive pine forests of the Köroğlu Mountains southeast of Bolu. The area, previously used only as summer pasture, was turned into a ski center in the 1970s. The hotels are at about 2,000 meters and the summit around 2,200 meters; the snow depth at times reaches three meters. Besides alpine skiing, it is also suitable for ski touring and cross-country skiing; the season usually lasts from late December to late March. The run and lift facilities belong to the hotels. In the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel on 21 January 2025, 78 people lost their lives; for this reason the current status and safety inspections of the facilities should be checked before the season. In summer, hiking is possible in the Köroğlu Mountains.
