Its story
Sülüklügöl is within the boundaries of the village of Tavşansuyu, attached to Mudurnu, in a wooded valley between Mudurnu, Göynük and Akyazı. It is accepted as having been formed about three hundred years ago when a landslide triggered by an earthquake blocked the valley; the trunks of pine trees submerged under the lake's waters have survived without rotting, and in summer, when the water recedes, upright stumps are seen in the lake. The leeches (sülük) that gave the lake its name have largely decreased because of fish released later. The area was placed under protection in 1988 and became a nature park in 2011. Within forests of Uludağ fir, Scots pine, black pine and beech there are footpaths and a camping area.
