Emir Sultan Mosque and Tomb
Yıldırım, Bursa
A complex built in the name of Emir Sultan, son-in-law of Yıldırım Bayezid and a great scholar of his time, famed for its cypress-shaded cemetery.
Its story
Emir Sultan was a scholar and Sufi from Bukhara who married Hundi Hatun, daughter of Yıldırım Bayezid. The mosque and tomb built in his name are among the city's most visited spiritual sites. The present mosque, renewed in the 19th century after an earthquake under Sultan Abdülaziz, shows Ottoman Baroque influences. The centuries-old plane trees in its courtyard and the old cemetery spreading down the slope create a peaceful atmosphere overlooking the plain. It can be visited together with the nearby Yıldırım Bayezid Complex.
