Its story
The walls of İznik (Nikaia) were built in the Roman period and repeatedly repaired and strengthened in the Byzantine period. The walls, about 5 km long, have dozens of towers and four main gates. The Lefke Gate to the east is the most impressive, with its nested gate layout and Roman-period outer gate in the form of a triumphal arch. Roman-period reliefs can also be seen on the İstanbul Gate to the north. Walking along the walls, you can explore the city's ancient plan and the lakeshore.
