Its story
Kemerli Church (the Arched Church) is one of Tirilye's religious buildings dating back to the Byzantine period and takes its name from the arches on its facade. For a long time the church served the town's Greek Orthodox community; after the population exchange it was used for various purposes and gradually fell into disrepair. The alternating stone-and-brick masonry of its walls reflects the late Byzantine building tradition of the region. In Tirilye's narrow streets, the building forms a short walking route together with Fatih Mosque and Taş Mektep. Care should be taken during a visit because of the building's fragile condition.
