Veli Paşa Hanı
Merkez, Çorum
A two-story wooden city han from the late 19th century; restored with its three-story kiosk known as the 'Anadolu Oteli' and reopened in 2022.
Its story
The Veli Paşa Hanı is a late Ottoman-period city han in central Çorum, near the clock tower. On an area of about 1,000 square meters, it consists of rooms opening onto arcades with wooden posts around a rectangular courtyard; the three-story kiosk section in the east wing, known as the 'Anadolu Oteli' (Anatolia Hotel), sets the building apart from typical hans. Its construction technique and decoration resemble traditional Çorum houses. The han was used first as a travelers' han, then as a depot, a hotel and, in the 1950s, as the city bus terminal; during the years of the National Struggle it was the center for materials collected under the Tekâlif-i Milliye (National Obligations). Used for a long time as a supermarket after 1980, the building was restored by the Çorum Municipality between 2017 and 2022 and given back to the city.
