A freshwater lake on the Çivril plain where the Büyük Menderes rises, known for its water lilies and birdlife.
Its story
Işıklı Gölü, also called Çivril Gölü, lies on the Çivril plain between Denizli and Afyonkarahisar. The Büyük Menderes river rises from this lake; with embankments built by DSİ (State Hydraulic Works), the lake also functions as a regulating reservoir. Its water level fluctuates by up to 3 meters a year depending on summer irrigation. In summer its shores are covered with water lilies; the Ministry's routes recommend a canoe trip among the lilies.
