Tripolis Ancient City
Buldan, Denizli
A trading city on the borders of Lydia, Phrygia and Caria overlooking the Büyük Menderes valley, with its theater and streets opened by excavation.
Its story
Tripolis lies on the slope on the north bank of the Büyük Menderes, east of Yenicekent in Buldan. Thought to have been founded in the period of the Kingdom of Pergamon, the city grew rich through trade thanks to its position at the meeting point of three regions. In antiquity it was also known as Neapolis, Apollonia and Antoniopolis. Excavations have uncovered a theater, baths, a colonnaded street and a church. It is about 20 km northwest of Hierapolis.
