Eskişehir Eti Archaeology Museum
Odunpazarı, Eskişehir
A museum displaying Prehistoric, Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine works from the province's excavations, from Demircihöyük to Pessinus.
Its story
The foundations of the museum were laid in 1945 when artifacts collected from the surrounding area were stored in the Alaaddin Mosque; the collection moved to the Kurşunlu Complex in 1966 and to its present building on Atatürk Bulvarı in 1974. The museum, housing about 18 thousand works, displays Bronze Age finds from the Demircihöyük excavation, works from the Alpu Kocakızlar Tumulus and Pessinus excavations, Roman mosaics from Şarhöyük (Dorylaion) and marble statues. There is also an ethnography section and a sculpture garden. It was renovated in the 2000s and took the name Eti Archaeology Museum. It is a good starting point for gaining context before touring the province's archaeological sites.
