Its story
Karacahisar Castle is a Byzantine castle built on a plateau near the Porsuk Çayı southwest of the city, at an altitude of about 1010 meters above sea level. The walled area measures about 200 x 300 meters. According to Ottoman sources, Osman Bey took the castle in 1288; its conquest was an important step in the westward expansion of the principality. Excavations that began in 1999 under the leadership of Halil İnalcık have been continued by different teams; glazed ceramics, coins, arrowheads and rings have been found. From the castle hill the Eskişehir plain is seen from a wide angle.
